POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Director, Total Rewards & Employee Experience, the Manager, Total Rewards will provide support and leadership with the overall design, implementation, communication, and administration of the company’s compensation, pension and benefit programs. This position also supports and provides oversight for change management, recognition programs, and policy management, ensuring programs and offerings are market-competitive to help attract, retain and reward employees. Provides leadership and guidance to HRIS administration and metrics for the People & Culture department.


ROLE DESCRIPTION

  • Takes pride in being the first line of communication with employees and leaders and providing counsel on all employee experience matters regarding total reward programs, and policies and procedures, while resolving inquiries and providing information and solutions that aim to build robust and trusting relationships.
  • Collaborates within the P&C team and business partners for a seamless customer experience.
  • Identifies and anticipates the needs of employees and leaders and is always willing to go the extra mile.
  • Supports an environment with a focus on DE&I, where all employees feel included and valued.
  • Prepares and processes a wide variety of information pertaining to ESA’s employees, and ensures the secure custody of employees’ files, and control and access to this information.
  • Supporting total reward strategies, uses various methods and techniques to make data-based decisions on direct financial, indirect financial and nonfinancial employee benefits and compensation. This includes developing the appropriate salary infrastructure, salary administration, and recognition programs.
  • Supports and participates in employee, salary, and labour market surveys.
  • Conducts ongoing research into emerging trends, issues and best practices in total rewards, compensation, and employee benefits.
  • Responds and addresses escalated issues involving sensitive and confidential information.
  • Closely manages the relationship with external pension and benefit vendors.
  • Provides analysis and recommendations that supports ESA plans maintain competitive from a plan design and administration standpoint and makes recommendations for cost control and improvement.
  • Oversees and administers all activities for employees, including leave of absence administration, open enrollment, employee changes, and activities related to new hires and terminations.
  • Develops and manages effective communications related to employee pension, benefits and compensation activities, including preparing and conducting presentations for senior leaders and the organization as required to improve understanding.
  • Supports the evaluation and negotiation processes with with vendors to seek opportunities for cost savings and service improvements.
  • Responsible for the administration of employee recognition programs that align with business objectives and strategies to improve employee engagement.
  • Executes employee engagement surveys, conducts comprehensive analysis of results and supports the development of strategic action plans.
  • Proposes changes and improvements to P&C Policy updates and ensures organizational and regulatory compliance.
  • Develops content and materials for ESA’s People, Culture & Governance Committee of our Board of Directors.
  • Ensures and oversees the audit of total rewards programs (e.g. compensation, benefits, pension).
  • Oversees planning and implementation of HRIS system changes; designs system specifications and works with HRIS vendor programmers to develop, enhance, and/or modify the HRIS systems as needed.
  • Documents all modifications and HRIS processes, and drives best-practice processes.
  • Prepares reports and analyses as necessary.
  • Develops and monitors internal HRIS systems and databases to ensure proper functionality, and tracks employee experience metrics.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources Management or a relevant field
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in total rewards, with a minimum of 3 years managing programs effectively or recognized equivalent.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) and/or Certified Compensation Professional designation is an asset.
  • Exposure to the electrical industry or a related industry sector would be an asset
  • Experience in designing variable compensation models would be an asset
  • Experience working in a multi-union environment would be preferred.
  • Experience with managing compensation, benefits and defined pension plans and their impact on total rewards and the employee experience.
  • Excellent proficiency in MS Office applications - Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Extensive knowledge of HRIS
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong quantitative, analytical skills and presentation skills
  • Planning and organizational skills and attention to details
  • Thrives in a team-based, fast-paced, agile and professional workplace
  • High level of initiative, flexibility, and self-motivation
